Charlotte V. Upper House Installation
Charlotte V
June 2020
An upper house was recently installed on the Charlotte V to raise the eye level to 31ft. It also provides an endless number of opportunities to work safer and more confidently.
- Nov. 2019 - We contracted a new Aluminum upper house to be built by Hanko Metal Works in Berwick, La.
- Dec. 2019 - The structure was completed and trucked to the GMTC maintenance yard in Valona, Ga.
- Dec. 2019 - June 2020 - The interior of the upper house was completed and outfitted with a full electronics package, mirroring what is installed in the main wheel house.
- June 2020 - The completed upper house was installed in Stevens Shipyard, Younges Island SC. An aluminum base was built to support the upper house.
After the installation was completed the Charlotte V returned to work with Great Lakes Dredge & Dock in Charleston Harbor S.C.
The upper house has made this a more versitale offering that excels at pushing loaded barges on the ICW working with loaded and empty scow barges.
